When you do rice water treatment at least once every week, especially when you let it for 24- 48hrs after preparation, you’ll get to see quick and positive result. It will get an extra quarter inch of growth after 30 days and your hair will increase in thickness too.
The amino acids and vitamins contained in it increase the speed at which it produces result.
As long as you consistently use this treatment weekly, you’re sure to get positive results after this specified number of days.

So before you start using rice water, it is important to understand that it is not a quick-fix solution to hair growth. It won’t magically grow your hair few minutes or hours after using it. It takes within 30 – 45 days to get a positive result.
Can Rice Water Go Bad?
When the starch content in the rice is absorbed by the water, it produces a rancid and irritating smell that you may not like.
However, for as long as there’s no solids, for example, rice, left in the bottle with the rice water, it won’t go bad after a long period of time. You can also keep rice water in a bottle and store it in a refrigerator so it doesn’t accumulate the growth of mould which signifies the unsafe use of the substance or probably change in colour.
More so, anything fermented including rice water will preserve best at 10°C to 12°C provided it was produced in a good and hygienic condition. And below 10°C, it may stay for a few months before it goes bad.
In addition, rice water can also be produce via distillation and the product is often referred to as liquor and at 35°C – 40°C, alcohol will remain for many years if well bottled, corked and stored.
How Long Can I leave Rice Water In The Fridge?
If you intend to make a batch of rice water to use all week long in its diluted form, such as for a facial wash or in this context, hair rinse, prepare rice like you normally would, but use two times the amount of water the recipe calls for. Once the rice gets cooked, strain it out.
The rice water you sieved out will have a high concentration of the wanted minerals. This means, you do not need to use it that way.
So to make use of it, you first need to get it diluted:
- Get a very clean cup
- Fill it with clean water
- Add 4 tablespoons of the sieved rice water into it. At this point, the water will milky in colour
- Stir properly and use.
You can pour this in a container and store it in a refrigerator in a container with a well fitted top cover. This will definitely last a week in the fridge.
Can I Leave Rice Water In My Hair?
Yes but not for so long. When left for so long on your hair, it begins fermentation and goes through the bacterial growth process. If the rice water has dried on your hair, the fermentation will also take place but in a slower process.
Here are the ideal hours or time frame advisable for you to leave rice water on your hair;
- Normal rice water: – Spray and leave it for about an hour to 18 hours.
- Fermented rice water: – Leave it for an hour or two maximum.
Furthermore, thickness of the rice water is another factor that determines how long you should leave it on your hair.
The thicker the rice water, the more the nutrients and the lesser the time you should leave it on your hair before washing it off. While the lighter the rice water, the longer you should consider leaving it in your hair before washing it off.
Conclusively, leaving rice water in your hair for a prolonged time isn’t recommendable. It will undergo oxidation hence, lead to the fermentation of dried rice water on your hair. Although the fermentation is a slow process, your hair may start emitting some pungent smell. More so, when you sweat on your head, reactions occur that may cause itching and irritation on the scalp.
